"FRUITS IN CRYSTAL" by Salvatore Gallo

A native of Rogliano, Cosenza (the Calabria region of Italy), Salvatore emigrated to Toronto in 1951 where he studied art for four years at Central Technical & Commerce High School and later at the Ontario College of Art.

Although he prefers to paint in oils, he has also produced works in ink and pastels. His subject matters vary from portraits of family members and pliticians, to scenes of his beloved Italy. To Salvatore, his most treasured pieces are scenes he painted of farmlands in northern Toronto and the Holland Marsh area, mostly because these landmarks were replaced with housing and other developments.

Since the late 1960's, his works have been shown in many Toronto landmarks and various events, including; libraries; the Kiwanis Club of the Kingsway; The St.Lawrence Centre; The O'keefe Centre for the Performing Arts; Casa Loma Group Exhibition Shows; Ukranium Canadian Art foundation Group Exhibit of Toronto; and Hart Houst Exhibit, University of Toronto - to name just a few.

In 1996 he returned to his native town for the Rogliano One-Man Show at the Palazzo Carnival. In 2003 he took part in the Italian Festival Woodbridge Art Show.

His art has found its way to private collectors in Italy - Rogliano, Turin and Rome - as well as finding homes in the Toronto Archives and numerous offices of corporate Canada.

Salvatore would be happy to hear from our readers. He can be reached at 416-249-9221.
